“Dragonfly Earring, Necklace, and Ring Hanger”, Daniel D. Brown, 2013

This is my design for a dragonfly hanging armoire. It is all hand-cut from poplar wood, hand-painted glass eyes, mesh wings for hanging earrings, 8 hooks for rings, 10 hooks for necklaces, and 5 troughs for studs and rings.

I also designed an owl jewelry holder, which is also available for purchase.

“Owl Earring and Necklace Hanger”, Daniel D. Brown, 2013

I recently designed this earring hanger for my fiance. It was all hand-carved wood (luckily I now have a jigsaw), the eyes were hand-painted glass, and the wings have mesh for hanging earrings, and the hanging trough is for studs and rings. There are 10 hooks for necklaces.

I have also designed a different owl jewelry holder/hanging armoire that is for sale and a dragonfly one that is sold.

Dr. Kira Krend and “Oahu Amakihi”

So this is pretty rad… here is recent Ph.D. recipient Dr. Kira L. Krend holding up “Oahu Amakihi,” which  I designed specifically for her.  It was commissioned as a graduation present for Kira by her friend, the illustrious scientist/writer Christie Wilcox (of “Observations of a Nerd” fame).

As mentioned in my original post, the islands in the pond are the Hawaiian islands where Kira studied the Oahu Amakihi honeycreeper (perched on Oahu) and the disease ecology of malaria (mosquito). I couldn’t really figure out a good way to get a Plasmodium into the image…
