Ocean Invasion #12: We’ve Got Crabs

Blue crabs invade my friends’ apartment building. Note: In the original photo there is a street where there is now water.

This is the 12th in a series of pieces, “Ocean Invasion,” which finds ocean creatures living in absurd land habitats.

Photo taken with iPhone cam. Crabs modeled in Blender (with reference photo help from Dr. Tom Shultz, molecular biologist at the Duke Marine Conservation Molecular Facility and Amy Frietag of the “Southern Fried Science” blog and Duke Marine Lab). Textured and post-processing in GIMP.

  1. Note – If by some miracle someone is interested in posters/prints of this, I hope to have it available soon (next day or two). Feel free to leave a comment if you’re interested…

  2. I’ve become a connoisseur of blue crab art having researched extensively for Blue Crabs, Hon. I scan the internet DAILY for everything blue crab. I wanted you to know that your artwork is the coolest thing on the web. Your precision and attention to detail could only come from a scientist. I have, of course, posted ur image w/link. Many props n kudos alike. ~Anita

  3. I adore this! I would like a poster. Please, kindly, contact me with purchase information. I shared this on my FB page this morning. Thank you, Lee

  4. Thank you all so much for your comments. I will get the prints available today. I’ll have it up on both Redbubble and Zazzle. Redbubble makes higher quality prints I think, but it is usually way more expensive than Zazzle, so I usually order from Zazzle for myself.

I’m so glad someone liked my art!!

  5. Also I’d like to note that I can pose these crabs in pretty much any photo if someone wanted to commission a personalized print 😉

  6. Okay – prints of this work are now available in many many different formats and sizes at the two sites listed in the above post. Hopefully you can find one that suits you’re purposes :). If not, thanks for the comments anyway.
